A fabulous early bow dating from circa 1830 this bow is one of the highlights of the collection. When Eury first travelled to Paris in the 1790's he met up and was heavily influenced by Francois Tourte, the originator of the modern bow, and his bows are very similar. As one would expect from a bow of this period the stick is octagonal and made of the best pernambuco. The heel is in an extraordinary condition and totally original. It is interesting to note that Paganini used a Eury alongside an Italian bow throughout his career, and his Italian bow was repaired in seven places by Vuillaume! Playing CharacteristicsFrom a playing point of view bows fall into two catagories the Tourte pattern and the Peccatte pattern. It is down to personal taste as to which players prefer. Sometimes in the past when players have used Tourte bows (as with Isaac Stern and Eugene Ysaye, who in fact owned the same bow) you can really tell in the sound that a Tourte is being used. This bow plays beautifully and has no limitations. ConditionThis bow is splined with great care to keep as much of the original wood as possible. The rest of the bow is in fabulous condition. £12000 sold |
