It's not a season 10, really; I'm not arrogant enough to think that my little stories are like a "lost" season of this beloved legal drama. But they do pick up where season 9 leaves off, ignoring the reunion movies altogether (I'm sorry, but while they're fun, they're not part of my canon, and I'm not the only one who feels that way), and simply send our friends (all of our friends) on new escapades.
These adventures are different from the television series, however, which is another reason why I can't really see them as season 10. My stories are much more character-driven than many of the episodes, and while there are plenty of mysteries to solve, the cases rarely make it to court within the pages of the stories. The ones that do are mostly only spoken of before and after the fact.
Much is still the same, however. The characters' personalities are what you remember from the series. Perry is determined to do right by his clients (or by whoever else needs his help). Tragg often has a falsely friendly facade. Della is completely loyal to Perry, while Paul is his sometimes-reluctant right-hand man. Hamilton, while not always approving of Perry's methods, is still a close friend and is willing to listen when Perry has stumbled on a possible solution. Andy is amiable but businesslike. Steve is hardboiled but sensitive. And Sergeant Brice is quiet and unassuming, always there in the background.
Yes, everyone is here. The police throughout the series all work together and know each other as well as Perry and company. Lieutenant Tragg and Andy have a close surrogate familial relationship. Paul and Steve are good friends. Character relations shown on the series are expanded upon. Others not explored too much will be examined here. If you've ever been curious on how Della would interact with Hamilton or Andy during an extended conversation, possibilities are offered here.
Of course, probably the most anticipated interaction from the fans' points-of-view is Perry and Della. Their interaction is the same as on the series, but I've tried to develop it further while not crossing into romantic territory. If fans want to picture them getting together, that's great. I do think they belong together and they'll hook up eventually. But I'm a maverick who would rather explore things from a gen and friendship angle instead of romance.
The time period is the present day, but these fictional, immortal characters have not aged. Every re-envisioning of the series moves them to whatever is the current era. Hence, even though my stories are based fully on the beloved television series, I have simply picked everything and everybody up and plopped them into another era. The only thing I have left behind is smoking cigarettes. We don't need those life-shortening things here. But the noir atmosphere, even the fedoras, remain. A laptop or a cellphone here and there do not detract from anything.
My stories are already floating around on fanfiction.net and livejournal.com. Some are only on one or the other. The purpose of this site is not to have another place to post them. I will simply include links to the existing locations. This site's purpose (aside from entertaining me!), is to gather information on all the stories and events, both the "official" Fanfiction.net timeline and the more nebulous Livejournal.com timeline. I will also include profiles for all the characters, tell where the oneshot characters are from, and describe some of the development they receive over the course of my stories.
I get asked a lot about the timelines for stories in my other fandoms. So, if anyone is interested, this is the place to see it all get sorted out, Perry Mason-wise. Hopefully someone besides myself will find it entertaining!
