As a way to save the world, digging a ditch next to a hillock of sheep dung would seem to be a modest start. Granted, the ditch was not just a ditch. It was meant to be a “swale,” an earthwork for slowing the flow of water down a slope on a hobby farm in western Wisconsin.
And the trenchers, far from being day laborers, had paid $1,300 to $1,500 for the privilege of working their spades on a cement-skied Tuesday morning in late June.
Fourteen of us had assembled to learn permaculture, a simple system for designing sustainable human settlements, restoring soil, planting year-round food landscapes, conserving water, redirecting the waste stream, forming more companionable communities and, if everything went according to plan, turning the earth’s looming resource crisis into a new age of happiness.
It was going to have to be a pretty awesome ditch.

Earlier this year, Hayes Valley Farm received a one year notice on the completion of a Purchase and Sale Agreement for the south half (Parcel "P", borded by Oak Street, Hickory Street, Octavia Street, and Laguna Street). This is the most amazing opportunity for the pursuit of Permaculture in San Francisco. As we execute our transition plan, we have been meeting with various city officials to identify existing or potential sites for future farms. We need your help now more than ever. -Jay For more info, contact me at PermacultureJay@gmail.com or check out www.49farms.org |

Common Vision is once again rocking a GreenFest afterparty on Saturday November 6th to raise funds for the 8th Fruit Tree Tour! We are seeking help for our handbilling team within GreenFest. We have had a successful no-person-left-unhandbilled policy in the past years that has been very successful.
Common
Vision will gladly put flyer/handbill folks on the guest list for the
evening event and will be grateful for their spirit of service that will
result in fresh fruit in the belly of school kids across the state.
Would you be down to send this to your premie heads? Big Love!
Blessings and Thanks Michael
