Penrith Chess 8/18

What is Penrith Chess 8/18?

Penrith Chess 8/18 is a new chess club open to all children and young people in the Penrith Area. Whether you are a complete beginner, an intermediate or an experienced chess player doesn’t really matter. What counts is that you would like to play chess and want to get better at the oldest and greatest game in world.

What goes on?

If you’re a beginner at chess you can get help learning how to play. For more experienced players there’s a chance to play friendly games, blitz or bullet chess or to play more serious matches in club competitions or to get some more advanced chess tips. We are also hope (in time) to organise some matches against other clubs in Cumbria.

When and where does it meet?

Penrith Chess 8/18 meets at Ullswater Community College in Room W76, on Mondays (from 19th September 2011) between 3.45 pm and 7.00 pm during school term time. You don’t have to come for the whole session: it is fine just to drop in for a period that suits you.

Who runs it?

Penrith Chess 8/18 is a partnership between:

· Penrith Chess Club who help with volunteers and organisation

· Cumbria Chess Association who help with chess equipment, some funding, and website support

· Ullswater Community College who help by providing a room and a safe environment for the club.

The Club’s Organiser is Mr. Kevin Southernwood.

How do I join?

Penrith Chess 8/18 is a voluntary run club. You are welcome to just come along to the club itself for free.

If you want to play for the club in a team or enter some of the events and tournaments that are available then this may involve a cost. Generally this will be to pay for things like competition entry fees and/or travel expenses.

And the other thing I need to know is…

It may be that we haven’t been able to think of the question that you want answered. But don’t let that stop you asking it! Just contact Kevin Southernwood by phone: 01786 896 510
