About

All things BB and WP

One of the most popular web forum applications is phpBB, and it allows large groups of people to share ideas and opinions. However, if you want to change the presentation to something more published, then moving to a blog format (like WordPress, one of the most commonly used blog applications) is a natural choice.

Unfortunately, these two pieces of software are very different and cannot be used interchangeably. This is when you would want to use bbgun, which does all of the grunt work in moving the data between the two formats.

Complete, simple moving

bbgun pulls a forum entry from the phpBB database, translates the text (bbCode to strict XHTML), date, and other fields, and pushes the translated entry into the WordPress database.

Flexible and granulated control

With bbgun, you can

  • move individual posts,
  • move entire threads,
  • move only certain users' posts,
  • map phpBB users to WordPress authors, and
  • specify WordPress categories for the new entries.
