At the 2011 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition these three wines were judged as some of the best wines in the world to have with Braised Abalone.
The Braised Abalone Tasting set contains 2 bottles of 1999 Pegeric Pinot Noir , 2 bottles of 2003 Pegeric Pinot Noir and 2 bottles of 2002 Escargot Barbera . In the last 2 years at the
Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competitions they have won the following awards in the Best Wines with Asian Dishes-BestWines with Braised Abalone class .

In 2012 Australian Wine Vintages Gold Book by Robert Geddes , Master of Wine , PEGERIC Pinot Noir is described as "a curio , full of secondary flavours. Unusually textured tertiary
flavours with oak mellow into a smooth style unlike most Australian wine . If these came from Rioja or Alba we would have a different view. "
The 1999 , 2003 and a small but important portion of Pinot Noir blended into the Barbera come from the PEGERIC vineyard , situated high in the Macedon Ranges , Victoria , Australia
This vineyard site is one of the coolest in Australia and New Zealand . The Barbera comes from our good friend Robert Fiumara's award winning LILLYPILLY vineyard in LEETON , NSW.
The 2002 vintage was one of the coolest for LILLYPILLY in the last 10 years .
All these wines show intense plum and earthy , smoky oak characters on the nose .This follows through on the palate which is balanced by nice acidity . The Barbera exhibits an extra
dimension of cherry on the palate . The 1999 PEGERIC Pinot Noir also has a distinctive chocolate savouriness , while the 2003 PEGERIC Pinot Noir is yet to develop this ,but will do so
in a few years time .
All wines will benefit with decanting and being allowed to breathe for a short time .
