What do I do if my child needs to take medication in school?
For medication to be given in school, a medication order form must be filled out by the doctor and a parent medication consent form must be signed by the parent/guardian.The medicine must be brought to the clinic by an adult and must be labeled with the child's name, medication name & dosage instructions. What happens if my child gets sick at school? The clinic is open during school hours & your child will be checked by the nurse. If your child has a fever over 100, is vomiting or having diarrhea, you will be called to pick him/her up from school. You will also be called if your child is not able to participate in his school activities because of severe cough, headache or other minor illnesses. We can work together to best meet your child's needs. In the unusual case that emergency care is needed for your child, every effort will be made to contact you first. If we are unable to contact you and your child's health is at risk, they will be transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Do you have medicine to give my child for a headache or cough? No. I do not have any medication to give to students unless you have brought it to school with a doctor's order. Can my child have cough drops at school? Cough drops are NOT allowed in school. Cough drops are a medication and also can be a choking hazard. Can my child go to school with a cast? Yes but we will need a note from the doctor that says what type of restrictions your child needs. |
