PD PROPS!

11/3/06

PD Tampa has done it again! For the first time, PD has served fresh hot meals on the spot! This took a lot of planning and hard work from each PD member. PD Props go out to Brother Bilal and Jasim for bringing the tables and finding a new location, Sisters Basma, Tara, Maysi, Hanean, Michelle, and the countless other sisters that prepared the food. And most of all, PD Props to the all the brothers of PD Tampa for representing and touching the hearts of  so many downtown. While others may have given their Friday evening to be at the USF Homecoming Parade, the Brothers of PD Tampa chose to seek God on a Friday night!

10/13/06

PD Props go out to Sister Sheila for providing over 100 drinks and snacks for our friends. Sister Sheila, however, had a little help from the youngest PD member nationally, Harvey! PD props to you too Harvey!

10/6/06

Props go out to members of the community who represented PD Tampa and showed their support not only with their contributions, but with their time and efforts. PD Tampa recognizes Sister Khadijah, Brother Jarvis, Sister Ifraj, and Sister Nadia Ahmad.

9/29/06:

PD Props go out to the sisters of the PD Tampa Team for touching the hearts of the homeless at the Church last week.

Tampa to Launch New Homeless Sponsorship Program

The PD Tampa Team has built lasting friendships with those downtown. Volunteers have come to find each person downtown has their own individual needs. To address those needs, PD Tampa will be soon launching its Homeless Sponsorhip Program. Keep checking the website for updates!

PD Tampa Has Done it Again! Freshly Served Hot Meals: From our Hearts to Yours...

Downtown Tampa had one of its coldest nights on the evening of November 3rd, 2006. Many of those less fortunate ran to find cover from the piercing wind. Bob had ony an undershirt, Mike's blanket had been stolen the previous week. But they knew they had something no one could take away from them: their weekly meeting with the PD Tampa team. But this week was different. As the homeless gathered, they noticed the PD Team started assembling tables, bringing out trays of steaming rice, chicken, and fish. A warm meal could not have come at a better time. Mike could not beleive it. He filled his plate with chicken, rice, salad. "Have some salad dressing" a PD member suggested. "And don't forget dessert! We've got apple pie, brownies, rice pudding..."

"For me?" Mike asked with a smile of hope.

"Yes for you...and for the pleasure of God..."

PD Tampa presents its youngest and most dedicated member: Harvey!

Meet Harvey! The youngest member of Project Downtown nationally. While many toddlers would prefer to stay home on a Friday night, Harvey spends his Friday nights assisting his friends downtown. Sure he needs to be pushed around in his wheelchair, or carried on the arms of his mother, but when Harvey comes downtown, he brings the brightest smiles to everyone around him.

What makes PD Tampa Different...

It is estimated that there are at least 5,000 homeless people in Hillsborough county (2002 estimate), and many still point to that as a gross underestimation. 10% are estimated to be children. Furthermore, it is estimated that 50,000 people in Hillsborough County experience hunger, with about half of them being children.

Many people may drive to work on a day to day basis, and be unaware of the problem, as the homeless are not centered in one location.  This is especially true in the Tampa Bay area, as they are spread out throughtout the city.

Because of this, the PD Tampa Team has launched operations focusing on reaching out to the homeless at three locations. Be on the look out for the PD Tampa Teams. When you see them, no matter who you are or where you're from, you can most certainly expect a meal, clean water, and an open heart.

PD Tampa Teams: From Team Mecca to Team Medinah

Since the homeless in Tampa are spread out, PD Tampa has made it its mission to make sure no homeless person is left without food and water on any given Friday. To accomplish this task, PD Tampa Teams cover different areas of the city including the Ashley Park, Salvation Army, Marrion Bus Station, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
