The primary focus in AP English Language is on persuasive writing in nonfiction, but we will also read and evaluate works from other genres of literature as well. We will study the different methods of developing an argument, the context of the argument, the logic of argumentation, the agenda of the writer and the use of literary devices to support the argument. We will do this both in the context of the literary analysis essay and the AP English language examination. Students will analyze the written works of others and write persuasive essays expressing their own opinions. Hopefully, this course will help students to become better readers and better writers.
