Dear Students and Families:
Having finished our introductory unit on the Elements of Music, we moved into a deeper study of Rhythm. We are now discovering how these rhythms have brought about another art form - dance! Reading Chapter 5 in our texts, we are beginning to discover the influences of dance in our culture. The first stop along this journey is to look at the traditions of the Irish culture - a culture that has had a tremendous impact on Appalachian culture. As we continue through this unit on Rhythm and Dance, we will begin to look at the dances that have been popular in the United States in the last fifty years. By learning about the dances of different cultures, we can begin to understand the impact that these cultures have on our own culture. A short review will follow at the end of this chapter.
