All Hands on Deck!
My music classes are very different from the standard class. Almost everything we do is completely hands-on. We try to listen to music every day and much of our learning is based upon the hearing of these songs and the related activities. You may not see very many assignments on my Homework Page, but I assure you I give each student the opportunity to succeed - even if they are absent during an activity. The largest part of the students' grades is participation. I believe fully that they will not assimilate their learning to their lives if they do not actively participate in their own learning. I see myself more as a Tour Guide than an Instructor and I want my classes to have that feel to them. While I may not always succeed in this, I hope that each student will become increasingly active in their own learning, ask more questions and find a more fulfilling experience in class.
If your child misses a class, be assured that, if work is assigned while they are gone, they will be given an equal amount of time to complete the assignment. However, if they only miss in-class activities, they will not suffer from the absence. I will not reduce their participation score due to any absence. As I have said before, no question or concern from a parent or guardian is misplaced or out of line. I believe YOU are the second-most important individual involved in your child's learning. They, themselves, are the most important. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at the address below.
