On Buying a New Personal Computer

Buying a new Personal Computer seems a daunting task, with the seemingly alphabet soup of abbreviations and technical sounding jargon. Not to mention the wide ranges in prices and computer retail and online stores.

Making a good choice (there is probably no “right” choice) depends on having a good idea of the uses for the new computer.

Most people use a PC to browse the web, to read and write eMail, perhaps social networking and to write an occasional word document or juggle a spreadsheet. Today, even the least expensive, low-end system can perform any of these tasks easily. If you have particular needs, such as watching or burning HD movies on Blu-ray discs, digital photography and/or video editing a more capable, and more cost, system may be required.

Before shopping for a new PC this presentation will guide you through the options. From CPUs and motherboards to LCD monitors and optical storage, the following pages will clear up the jargon and explain which specifications are most important to a purchase.

Let’s get started.
