The Integrative Taxonomy and Microbial Ecology Lab is housed within the Department of Biological Sciences, IISERK. The Department of Biological Sciences houses state of the art molecular, microbial and cell culture facilities. In addition the department has a very well equipped imaging facility. The Integrative Taxonomy and Microbial Ecology Lab has a dedicated marine phytoplankton culture facility, several microscopes including for imaging purpose, instruments for undertaking microbial community analyses (e.g. DGGE apparatus), nutrient analysis, real-time PCR facility and access to facilities for undertaking high-throughput sequencing. Since significant work of the lab is focused on field, we have a dedicated motorized boat and equipments (e.g. Niskin sampler) for undertaking sampling activities in the Indian Sundarbans. We have established a biological observatory in one of the islands of Indian Sundarbans for undertaking studies on biological organisms (e.g. microbes, plankton) in link with biogeochemical parameters. The long-term objective of this observatory is to gain a better understanding about the impacts of climate change on estuarine and coastal biota. |
