Quaestio the UCLA undergraduate history journal is the official publication of the Theta Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta international history honors society. In accordance with chapter bylaws, all editors of the journal are members in good standing of Phi Alpha Theta. Quaestio accepts unpublished, original manuscripts from all current UCLA undergraduate students that meet the criteria as established by the Editorial Board and posted on the chapter's official web site. Calls for papers are issued at intervals to be determined by the Editorial Board. Manuscripts submitted to the journal that are introduced into the editorial process are not returned.
While authors retain the copyright to their work, they must notify the Editorial Board prior to submitting it to any other printed or online publication.
Editorial Board Application General Information The Editorial Board of Quaestio is a significant time commitment depending on what you are specifically interested. Every board member will have to critique papers but the number might differ on if you are interested in another aspect of Quaestio. The number of submissions we receive will coincide with how many submissions each board member must critique. On average, a board member would have to critique at least 3 papers so that we get a broad spectrum of opinions on the papers. Time Commitment Meetings: I will be meeting with each of the members to
better gage your strengths as well as to see what goals you have for Quaestio.
We can either do 1 large meeting on campus or meet individually with me. I
would prefer a large meeting with all of us so that we can share ideas and be
on the same page at the same time. Peer editing: You will have a few weeks to read and critique
the papers. Each member will have to peer edit at least 3 submissions unless
otherwise stated by me; based off of their level of commitment some members
might critique more than that. To do this in a serious fashion per the
guidelines, it shouldn't take you more than a full afternoon if you sit down
and drudge through it. I would advise you, however, to allow more time to
allow for reflection upon the paper and for possible second read-throughs if
you have any doubts or clarification issues. Submission Deadline And Notification Deadline: Completed applications are due by 5pm, Friday February 19th. Incomplete applications are subject to immediate disqualification. No late applications will be accepted. Notification: Every applicant will be notified by February 28th, if they have received a
