In 1969, I began to practice Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan through the 3HO Foundation. Studying yoga with a qualified yoga instructor is very important. On this site, I will briefly describe one yoga set I practice almost daily to keep my lower back comfortable as well as keep my sciatica (‘life nerve’ in yoga speak) stretched out. With the assistance of a qualified yoga instructor, a person can learn many, many more yoga sets, all of which have their own benefits.
For each of these exercises, I rest for 1-2 minutes before starting the next exercise.
CAMEL RIDE—This exercise got its name because it looks like your riding a camel. I sit crossed legged and hold on my ankles. I inhale and still up a little extra straight. Then I exhale and slouch. I do this for 3 minutes, then inhale, hold my breath briefly and then relax.
CAMEL RIDE variation—This is the same as the above exercise except I am sitting on my heels. I do both of these every day.
NECK ROLLS—This one is done gently, to relieve tension in the neck. I roll my head in a broad circle inhaling as my head comes up and exhaling as it comes down. At some point I reverse the direction, so I put in about 1 to 2 minutes in each direction. Be careful with this one as you can get dizzy.
