“It was the most impactful money I've spent on the sport...and I'm not a new triathlete. I've been in the sport since the early 90's. They could double their price and I'd still make that statement.”

    Finding Freestyle Update - 6/20/2011

Just a little bit of news to give shouts out to our friends, and information about the resources and programs available to Finding Freestyle members.

News of Speed, Endurance, and More Speed
Athletes and friends of Finding Freestyle have enjoyed a great season thus far. Let us know your A race and we'll include it here.  Lot’s of best times, some Kona Qualifications, and some terrestrial success as well:

Kona Ironman World Championships Qualifiers: Larkin Carter (@larkincarter) and Bob Flannigan (@cve_coach) both nailed it at Ironman Texas and earned Kona spots.  Oh well, there goes Larkin’s plan to focus on sprint tri’s for the rest of the summer!  Great job gents!
Swimming Fast, Swimming Faster: We get reports from folks who are using better swim splits to set up overall PR’s in their weekly races.  Congrats to Eilleen, Murphy’s Law, John King, Kevin Murphy, and Susie Leahy (@susie576).  I know that this is not the only group, so drop us a line, post a race report on the support forum, or tweet us some results @findfreestyle.
Terrestrial Triumphs: Since so many of our friends are multi-sporters, they tend to do some entirely land-based activities from time to time.  Bob Flanigan (@CVE_coach) won his age group at the recent Virginia State TT, and Tara Elgie blazed through the 23 mile course in under an hour - that’s a 23+ MPH average folks!
Ironman Coeur d’Alene: Good luck to all Finding Freestyle Athletes who are going to IM Coeur d’Alene:  Rick English, Susan Ann Glass, Chad Johnston, and Trish Powell.

Advanced Training Group - The next 4 months
    The next 2 blocks: Threshold
We have been focusing on building endurance over the last 2-3 blocks, and hopefully maintaining our speed.  We now start to work in earnest on developing speed at threshold.  This is the time when we should start to look for another breakthrough in speed.  If you have steadily been getting faster, awesome, we will look to continue that trend.  If you have plateaued during this endurance phase, we will look to shake you out of you comfort zone and take another step.
Looking Forward to Fall: The Fall Finding Freestyle Mile Postal Meet
This fall we have what we think is a really exciting approach to getting faster and having fun.  As fall sees a lull in the Triathlon racing season, we will turn our emphasis towards pool swimming.  Our training focus will be to develop those skills that you did not have a chance to focus on in the past few months, namely: flip turns, and VO2max speed.  In addition to this flip turn practice, we will also give you the opportunity to set a race performance goal, and a venue in which to shoot for that goal: the Fall Finding Freestyle Mile Postal Meet.  Our training will be tailored towards those things that will help you to excel in swimming the pool mile, and of course, we will try to parlay all of the months of pacing awareness work into the ability to nail your effort levels for your event.  Participation in the postal is optional of course, but we would love to have you along.  This event is open to anyone who wishes to participate so invite your friends! http://tinyurl.com/3fbmozy
Start Planning Now for your “A” Race: The ATG Peaking Block
Members of the Advanced Training Group have access to a “Peaking Block”, that is, a 6-week set of workouts whose purpose is to deliver you to an endurance peak for an Ironman, ½ Ironman, or Olympic distance event.  This is customizable, so you can hop into this block at any time from 6 to 2 weeks until race day.  ATG Members only: http://tinyurl.com/3wgjmld
