Logistics and Transportation is an industry in flux. Its changing environment includes new forms of real estate, new ways of handling materials and ever more sophisticated software tools, all in the interest of providing dependable, just-in-time, high quality service to clients. This evolving industry offers a host of opportunities for Southwestern Pennsylvania. Namely, the Southwest Corner (Pennsylvania) Workforce Investment Board (SCWIB) area lies in the primary intermodal trading route in the United States, running from the San Pedro Bay Ports (California) to the Atlantic Coast Ports of New York and New Jersey.
Enter the Southwest Pennsylvania Transportation and Logistics Industry Partnership. In the midst of expected doubling of freight volumes by 2020, heavy congestion in neighboring regions, our Partnership seeks to best position the rich in waterways, railways and reasonably efficient roadways, as competitive alternatives. A foundational element in doing so is workforce development. Through the conception and execution of strategic initiatives, we seek to create, enhance and maintain and employee base that is able to meet and exceed the transportation and logistics industry's expectations. |
