The following Committees are in need of volunteers to help us serve the school more efficiently: Audit We need to have 3 person audit committee to work with the Treasurer to keep our financial base strong and meet the requirements of our PTA bylaws. This group will assist the treasurer and maintain open, transparent financing for our PTA. The audit commitee (As of September 8, 2011) has two filled positions (Ramsy Boland and Michelle Beatty) and is in need of a third member. Please contact the PTA board if you would like to join this important committee. Advocacy The advocacy committee is charged with helping to organize, plan, and execute our major efforts by working with teachers and parents. The main work comes for the Spring Carnival, Science Fair, and Silent Auction. This year, it will be held on April 28. This committee will garner donations from community businesses as well as Parkwood families to be placed up for bid in hopes to raise money for student and teacher supplies. This committee will also be responsible for the organization of games and prizes for the Carnival. The Chair of this committee is expected to oversee the Spring Carnival & Silent Auction process from the beginning to the evening's end. The Advocacy Committee consists of David Young, Amy Black, Ann Wilson, and Raychelle Baptist. Please contact the board if you would like to join this committee. Nominating The Nominating Committee will consist of 3 volunteers who will work throughout the year to identify parents with the talents and dedication to fill our Executive Board and Committee positions in the future. We have one volunteer who has agreed to be nominated for this board, and we will recruit 2 more people before our meeting on September 8. Our nominating committee consists of Terri Barber, Bill Williams, and Cathy Emrick. Volunteer Coordinator Our school is in need of a Volunteer Coordinator to assist Mrs. Metzger. This person will need to ensure that each individual that comes to the school to serve as a volunteer has submitted and passed a background check. The Volunteer Coordinator will also work with teachers to ensure that each class has a room parent to distribute all necessary information to the classroom parents. Fundraisers Fundraisers are a major source of funding for the PTA. Without fundraisers we would not be able do do much of what we set out to accomplish. We need parents and teachers to come in with fresh ideas and a willingness to work to help us make our school all that it can be. Our major fundraisers for this school year are the sale of our school t-shirts (new design coming this fall) and the sale of the Cookie Dough, Magazines, and a Durham Discount Card, which will be distributed for sale on September 22. We also have "passive" fundraisers such as Box Tops, Campbell's Labels for Education, Java Juice, Kroger Card Link, Harris Teeter Card Link, Food Lion Card Link.
