!!! Important Information Regarding Breakfast & Lunch Accounts !!!

Aplington-Parkersburg Schools need our families’ help to make sure we have family lunch accounts paid in full by the end of the year.  Please be aware of the following plan for students carrying a negative meal account:  Starting Monday, May 7th,  any student with a negative breakfast or lunch account will be served an alternate meal plan that includes toast and juice for breakfast and a sandwich, fruit, and milk for lunch.

All negative balances need to be paid by the last day of school.   You may access your family meal account balance online.  Directions for doing so are on the district’s website: http://www.apl-park.k12.ia.us/  under the “Parent Lunch Account” link.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact one of our school offices.

The Art of Creating Class Lists & District Policy

Parents are asked not to request that their child be placed with a particular teacher.  If unusual circumstances exit that create substantial risk for negative impact on the child’s social or emotional well- being, the school asks that you contact the counselor or principal to discuss your request your child’s needs.

Children are unique and it is our goal to set your child up for success each and every year.  Teachers and administration carefully create class lists each year.  There are many factors that are considered when placing students, such as mixed abilities, current stages of development, personalities, balance of boys and girls, relatives, mix of students in the same classroom from one year to the next, Title 1, special education, duplicate names, etc.  As you can tell there is much thought to which section students are placed.  We hope and appreciate that parents will trust the professional opinions of the educators at Aplington-Parkersburg Schools to place their children in homerooms.

Welcome to Parkersburg Elementary!
"Committed to promoting lifelong intellectual and personal growth."
We are kids of character--
(These photos were taken last fall during
Character Counts week!)

Although Character Counts week occurs for one week in the fall, it's always important to show good character.   The 6 Pillars of Character are:
Trustworthiness
Respect
Responsibility
Fairness
Caring
Citizenship

This year, our staff is learning more about the philosophy of Love and Logic.  After hearing a speaker in September, we are excited to implement many Love and Logic ideas in our building.  This is great information for anyone who deals with children-- they have many tools and resources available online.  If you have a minute, be sure to check out The Love and Logic Institute webpage for helpful suggestions.

Parkersburg Elementary School- “Committed to promoting lifelong intellectual and personal growth.”

Parkersburg Elementary School is a pre k-4 building located across the street from Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

Our talented staff members are dedicated to meeting each student's individual needs. Each grade level has two sections of classes, with many opportunities for small group work and individual assistance.  We have qualified para-professionals that assist in classrooms and other areas of the building.

All students participate in music, physical education, and art roughly twice a week.  A half-time counselor is available in the mornings to meet the social/emotional needs of students and provides classroom guidance lessons in each classroom.  Our media center is located in the center of the building and truly is the "hub" of our school.  We are also fortunate to have a full size computer lab and most classrooms house 2-3 computers  for student use as well.  Before and after school child care (BASC) is available in the elementary before and after school.

Stop by and check us out. We would love to show you around!
