About Me
The Family Parker
I was born in St. George, UT. A fast growing desert town about 4 hours south of Salt Lake City. Aside from the beautiful red-rock formations and the stunning Tuacahn theater, St. George is mostly a town for people who like peace and quiet--like my father. After spending my entire life moving from one small town to the next, my family landed in Toquerville, UT--population 800. But rather than stay in that small hamlet, I enrolled at Tuacahn High School for the performing arts. Here, I discovered my love of singing and performing. I scored a lead role in the musical, was senior class president, Music Sterling Scholar and valedictorian. It's a place I remember with fondness. | Subsequently, I attended the University of Utah where I earned my bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. I was able to participate in numerous operas including Dido and Aeneas, Don Giovanni, The Gondoliers and the Utah premier of Kurt Weill's Street Scene. During my time at "the U" I also met Andrew Parker. We got married in the summer of 2002 and we've been happily
married since. I discovered my passion for teaching music while going to school and chose to continue my education. I entered the Music Education program at the University of Southern California in June of 2007. I learned many things while I was in California. First, my husband stayed back in Utah and it was hard being away from him. I also learned a different culture that is different than living in Utah. I learned how to reach out to children who are less fortunate and teach them a love for music. It is amazing to me to see how music affects the people I work with. Andrew
and I own a house in Riverton, UT where we are raising our one son,
Colin who likes to get into everything and is already showing an
interest in music. We also, have a dog named Roxie who wants all the
attention. My hobbies are going to the movies, going out to eat and trying new food, cooking at home with Andrew, sleeping, reading a good book, especially the "Twilight" series, going to New York once a year to catch the new broadway shows and watching our favorite TV shows like The Office and Numb3rs. |
