Spring Fundraiser Classroom Auction Item Ideas

Unique Auction Item Projects:

·         Take a chef’s apron or jacket and have the children place painted handprints on the garment. Place each child’s name under their handprint with their birthdates. Ask for recipes from the class families and create a cookbook to go along with the apron.

·         There are several make-your-own ceramic shops around town. You can choose an item for the kids to paint (handprints, footprints or cute little stick figures representing each child with their name under each) and have the shop glaze and fire the piece. Serving platters are good for this or a set of 6-8mugs.

·         Take a mirror and using a digital camera take photos of each child, print them on photo paper and place them around the mirror using a decoupage technique.

·         Take a small chair (thrift shops are a great source) and spray paint it (you could use school colors or a faux finish). Take inexpensive ceramic stock tiles let the kids break them into about 2” irregular shapes. The kids write their favorite quote from a book they had read (with a Sharpie) on the tile pieces. Glue these to the seat of the chair and then cover the seat back of the chair with leftover tile or other coordinating tile in a mosaic fashion. Grout the seat and chair back. (Note: the grout can erase the Sharpie so be careful not to get it on the tiles with the quotes, sealing these tiles also helps.) Call it a “Chair of Inspiration” – this piece of personal art can cost about $25 to make and I’ve seen it sell for over $600.

·         Have the kids paint a child’s size picnic table and paint it a bright color. Have the kids paint the top in any way they feel inspired. Or have them create personal paintings on about a 5”x5”piece of paper and then use those to decoupage the table top in a collage fashion. This sold for over $400 if I remember correctly; the winner placed it in their children’s playroom.
