by Stephenie Meyer Review by AndriaIntended audience: YA Age of main character: 17 When seventeen-year-old Bella leaves Phoenix to live with her father in Forks, Washington, she meets an exquisitely handsome boy at school for whom she feels an overwhelming attraction and who she comes to realize is not wholly human. Sexual Content: Language: Other Issues: -This is a vampire book...there are vampires. -Considering this is a vampire book, there isn't much violence but the end of the book is particularly violent, because a small coven of traditional vampires wander into the town and one of them becomes fixated upon Bella and begins to hunt her. When he finally corners her and begins his attack, there is intense violence as he intends to kill her. Examples: p.450 “He was over me at once, his foot stepping down hard on my leg. I heard the sickening snap before I felt it. But then I did feel it, and I couldn’t hold back my scream of agony. I twisted up to reach for my leg, and he was standing over me, smiling… His toe nudged my broken leg and I heard a piercing scream. With a shock, I realized it was mine.” Did I like this book? Yes!! I love this book and all the following ones. Even though this is a vampire book, the Cullens only hunt animals and have really good morals. I didn't let my daughter read these yet because I think that she is too young for these serious emotions (and the sexual relationship, even though they are married, in the last book), but I will probably let her read them in the next couple of years. This continues to be one of the best books that I have ever read and I can't wait for more from Stephenie Meyer. 9 out of 10 other books in this series: New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn |
