Growth Methods
  • Pulsed Laser Deposition (high & ultra high vacuum) for oxides, silicon and metal thin films and nanostructures.
  • Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) for growth of oxide nanostructures (Currently involved). 
  • Spin Coating for growth of oxide thin films and nanostructures.
  • Thermal Evaporation and D. C. Sputtering for metal contact deposition.
  • Wet chemical (solution chemistry) methods for material preparation.
Material Systems and Device Applications
  • Oxide semiconductor ZnO and related materials for photonic, transparent electronic and photovoltaic applications
  • High k dielectrics (TiO2, ZrO2, Al2O3 and SiN1-xOx etc.) thin films and their multilayer structures for MOS technology.
  • Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors ( Mn, Co, Ni and Fe doped ZnO) for spin photonic and transparent spintronic devices

Important Scientific Contributions  

  • Development of solid state Dye Sensitized Solar Cells based on nano-crystalline ZnO and natural Dyes .
  • Development of transparent nonvolatile resistive random access memory devices based on ZnO and its variant using PLD and their characterizations.
  • Dye sensitization of ZnO nanocrystalline films for photovoltaic applications.
  • Growth of multi-layer matrices of Alumina capped ZnO quantum dots (dot size down to ~1.4 nm) using PLD for UV-blue photonic applications
  • Growth of device grade ZnO/ MgZnO Multiple Quantum Wells (well layer thickness down to ~ 1 nm) with efficient room temperature photoluminescence using buffer assisted pulsed laser deposition and their spectroscopic investigation. 
  • Band gap engineering of ZnO in the broad range of ~ 4.2 to 2.8 eV using meta-stable ternary alloys MgxZnO and CdZnO thin films grown using PLD.
  • Controlled in-plane oriented growth of high quality ZnO films on Sapphire at low temperatures using high temperature buffer assisted pulsed laser deposition (PLD)
  • Growth of diluted magnetic semiconductors Mn, Co, Cr and Ni doped ZnO for spin-photonic applications.
  • Studies on the cluster formation in UV laser ablation plumes of ZnSe and ZnO by using time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
  • Growth of ultra-thin high-K dielectrics thin films (TiO2, ZrO2 & Al2O3 etc. for applications in MOS devices.
  • Growth of Si Quantum Dots using novel Off-axis pulsed laser deposition. 
  • Laser Induced Oxi-Nitradation and growth of ultra thin SiO2 and SiNOx dielectric films for MOS devices.
  • Optimized growth of thin films and hetero-structures of colossal magneto-resistance materials LCMO its variants for spintronic applications.
  • Currently involved in setting-up of Atomic Layer Deposition Facility.
