Naimisharanya -Neemsaar Tirth -most sacred and holy place near Lucknow

Naimisharanya, around 90 km from Lucknow, is one of the most sacred places of pilgrimage in UP. As per the legends, Lord Brahma had himself indicated that in Kaliyug era, Naimisharanya would be the most sacred and holy place for meditation. It is because of its historic importance that people from all over India visit this holy place.

What to see in Namisharanya and Mishrikh : Chakratirth, Lalita Devi Temple, Panch Prayag, Vyas Gaddi, Soot Gaddi, Sri Hanuman Garhi and Panch Pandav, Tirupati Balaji, Sukhdev Bhagwan Puran Mandir, Mata Anandmayi Ashram, Satya Narain Mandir in Ahovil Math, Bhooth Nath Temple in Chakra, Golden Piller, Nepali Mandir,Vat Vriksh, Pandav Kuan, Dadhichi Temple, Sheshnath Mandir, Mishrikh, Mahirishi Dadhichi Ashvidan Sthal, Mishrikh,Aadiganga Gomti river, Sita Kund -Mishrikh,Ram Janki Mandir(Sita Ram Ashram), Sonak Yagya Shala(Soot Gaddi), Mansut Rupa Tapasthali, Kashi Kund are some of the most sacred places to visit in addition to Mishrit which is around 10 kms. away from this place.
How to Reach : Reach Sindhauli on Sitapur Road and thereafter have left turn. After a drive of around 24 kms there is a crossing, take left turn and after 12 Kms. drive, one can reach the sacred place Namisharanya. Mishrikh Tirth is situated on right hand turn of this crossing towards Sitapur. See Map below.

Importance of Namisharanya Tirth The name of Namisharanya Tirth comes from Naimisha Forest.The story regarding the importance of this forest is that, after the great battle of Mahābhārata, sages and saints, who were very much concerned about the beginning of Kali yuga, approached Brahma. Being aware of the extreme effects of the yuga, they urged Brahma to show them a place which can stay untouched by the effects of Kaliyug. Brahma takes out a sacred wheel (Chakra) and rolls it down on the earth and says, where ever that wheel stops, that would be the place. The sages follow the wheel, which stops in the forest of Naimisha. Thus, they make it their abode for further penance.
