¡ Bienvenidos a la clase de español 5/6 Honores! ¿Es para ti esta clase? (Is this class for you?) In order to be prepared for Honors Spanish, you should have had a Spanish 4c grade of B+ or better. It is great to challenge yourself and grow, but consider your commitment and discuss your overall study load with your parents. Can you commit 30+ minutes a day to prepare for lessons? Plan time now in your routine to not only complete homework, but to study, review and memorize before each class session. This class is not for the timid Spanish speaker nor for those who prefer to sit back and absorb...it is for the ACTIVE participator! If you choose to withdraw from this class, the time to do so is during the first 3 weeks or at the completion of the semester. Otherwise, stay for the entire year’s course of study. Expectativas (Expectations) -HABLAR Y MAS HABLAR- Honors level Spanish will prepare you for success in AP and/or in college. Students are expected to speak lots of Spanish in class, not only with the teacher but also with classmates. Debriefing in English is intentionally kept to a minimum. Because the teacher focuses on the student’s mouth, no food or gum is allowed. Attached is a content study guide. Please review it to understand what we will be covering during each semester. -MATERIALES- You will need to provide a thin spiral notebook or a folder with loose-leaf paper for keeping a journal (diario). Highlighter pens are also recommended. Two important reference books to have at home are a Spanish dictionary (Larousse is a good one) and 501 Spanish verbs. -NO SEAN TRAMPOSOS- With respect to academic integrity, turn in only your own work. Relying on computerized translators or submitting the work of others as one’s own is considered academic dishonesty and is grounds for a referral and loss of credit for the assignment. -TRABAJO TARDE- Late work for excused absence is due the day after returning to class for 100% credit. Late work due to negligence is accepted ONE day late only for 60% credit. Notas (Grades) Semester grades are based on the following weighted categories: Exams, projects and compositions=45% Pop quizzes, classwork and homework=20% Speaking participation (good attendance is key here) and appropriate behavior=25% Final exam=10% |
