Hard to believe the hopefully less stressful days of summer are upcoming soon, the school year has flown by and seems to get faster with each passing day. Thanks, Tom Battlefield District Beltloop Bonanza The Bonanza will be held at the Hanover Courthouse Ruritan Club Park located at 13497 Hanover Quarter Road, Hanover, VA 23069. Directions: Take I-295 to Route 301 North Exit. Take 301 North to Norman's Bridge Road (just past Hanover Courthouse). Turn Right. Follow to Hanover Quarter Road. Turn left. Follow signs to event on left. This year's Belt Loop Bonanza will focus on seven Sports Belt Loops and one Academics Belt Loop. The Bonanza will offer the following Belt Loops: Badminton, Basketball, Fishing, Flag Football, Marbles, Softball, Table Tennis and Wildlife Conservation. The cost is $10.00 per Cub Scout. Families attend and camp for free. The event flyer, registration form and an information flyer are attached. Please inform your son's denleader if you are interested. Pack Meetings The April Pack meeting is 4/21 at 6:30 PM at Hanover Hall. Due to a schedule conflict with Rural Point Elementary, Steven Catlett's Bridging Ceremony has been moved to Tuesday, May 12th. This will also serve as the May Pack Meeting. Adult Leader Recruiting Our pack is as only as great as the kids and adult leaders who make it go. Next year we have some leadership openings to be filled. The more positions we can fill this Spring the better prepared our Pack will be in the fall. Please read the list below and contact Bill, Ed or myself if you have any questions. 1. Pack Treasurer - Ed Showalter who has been our treasurer for the last two years needs to step down this summer. Treasurer duties include budget drafting, Pack account reconciliation. Ed will speak at the April pack meeting. 2. Bear Den Leader (3rd Grade Boys) - Planning and running Bear Den meetings and activities. We have plenty of resources available to make this as easy as possible. 3. Popcorn Kernel - aka Fundraising Chair - The Popcorn Kernel is responsible for booking a site(s) (Kroger, Bass Pro, etc) for Popcorn Booth Sales, attending council kick off meetings for Popcorn sales, placing Pack's Popcorn order on the order website. distribute Popcorn and work with Treasurer on money collection and payment. The good news is by the beginning of December this job is complete. 4. Recruiting Chair - Duties include, attend any Scout Night Trainings usually in August, be a liaison between the Pack and Rural Point Elementary, ensure we have coverage for the lunchtime presentation, plan and staff a table display for Back To School night at Rural Point. Plan a recruiting event at the church, we have done Food for Thought in the past. 5. Pinewood Derby Chair - Ensure track setup is completed, trophies and patches are acquired. Plan race day staffing. I do believe next year will be even better and with your help it can. Battlefield District Cubmobile Races The event is to be held on Saturday, May 9. We have a car already built, the dens compete against others in a soapbox derby style race. More details will be shared when we receive them. Heart of Va Council Cub Fun with Son Weekend May 16 - 17th, this is a fun weekend of activities at the Cub Adventure Camp. You can come for just the day or come for the day and spend the night camping at no additional cost if you bring your tent. If you want to stay in our Bunkhouse style housing there is an additional $15.00 per parent/pal couple. For more details please check the council website. www.scoutingva.org and scroll down a few items. Battlefield District Twilight Camp Twilight Camp will be held June 15 - 19, 2009 from 3:30 - 9:00 pm at Fairfield Presbyterian Church, 6930 Cold Harbor Road, Mechanicsville, VA. The theme this year is "Exploring The Unknown". The daily themes will be centered around Exploring Space, Exploring the Deep, Exploring the Ancient Past, Exploring Our Past and Exploring Our Future. FUN activities, games and crafts will be offered each evening to capture the Cubs and Webelos attention and curiosity. Please note: The Chaperone and Staff Training session will be held on June 13, 2009 from 9:00 am - 12 noon. Remember each Pack must have one Chaperone per four Cubs or Webelos. (volunteers needed) All Chaperones that attend training will receive a free t-shirt and water bottle. Summer Camp Summer Camp is fast approaching. In order to get a good choice of rooms and save a little money we would like to get our reservation into council by May 1st. The Summer Camp sessions are open for any Cub Scout rising 2nd graders - rising 5th graders. Most of the camp attendees are boys going into 3rd, 4th or 5th grades. Attached is a parents guide, please look it over and don't be afraid to ask Bill or myself questions.
