June Pack Update

posted ‎‎Jun 25, 2009 7:18 AM‎‎ by Webmaster 555

Raingutter Regatta

Coming Saturday June 27th at 1:00 PM, the Raingutter Regatta.  This is a fun day in the sun with boys, little boats and a raingutter.  The boys blow on the little boats to make them go.  Really simple to build.  This is just for fun, no trophies.  The cost is $5 for the boat kit and patch.   The pack will provide popcicles and water.

Adult Leader Recruiting

Our pack is as only as great as the kids and adult leaders who make it go.   Next year we have some leadership openings to be filled.  The more positions we can fill this Spring the better prepared our Pack will be in the fall.   Please read the list below and contact Bill, Ed or myself if you have any questions.

1.  Pack Treasurer - Ed Showalter who has been our treasurer for the last two years needs to step down this summer.    Treasurer duties include budget drafting, Pack account reconciliation.

2.  Bear Den Leader (3rd Grade Boys) - Planning and running Bear Den meetings and activities.  We have plenty of resources available to make this as easy as possible.

Battlefield District Cubmobile Races

The Cubmobile Races have been rescheduled for August 22, 2009

Bring your own bicycle helmet to the ACCA Temple Shriners parking lot on Saturday, August 22nd at 8:00 am for some serious Cub Scout Racing.  (the boys race as dens).  This is similar to Soapbox Derby racing.  The Pack already has a working Cubmobile.

6/27 - Raingutter Regatta
7/?  - Pack Committee Meeting (Pack Activity Planning Session, all adults are invited)
7/?  - July Pack Activity  TBD
8/22 - Cubmobile Racing

Painless ways you can help Pack 555

posted ‎‎May 11, 2009 8:40 AM‎‎ by Webmaster 555

Parents,

I am happy to report Pack 555 is signed up for Ukrop's Golden Gift program and Food Lion's Lion Shop and Share program.

Ukrop's should send to all customers their Golden Gift certificates this month.  Please turn the certificates into your den leader, cubmaster or myself as soon as possible to ensure we turn the funds in before the deadline of June 13th.   The more points we turn in the more dollars we will receive back.  Last year Troop 555 received about $150 from Ukrop's for the Golden Gift program.

Official Ukrop's explanation of how the program works http://www.ukrops.com/org/login.asp

Every time you shopped at Ukrop's and used your UVC card between March 2 and March 28, 2009, you earned one Golden Gift Point for every $1 spent. The more you shopped, the more you earned! Points were automatically calculated and tracked on your purchase receipts. At the end of the program period, a Golden Gift certificate that details your household's points will be mailed to you. Donate your points by turning your Golden Gift Certificate in to the participating non-profit of your choice or mail your certificate to them. We have their addresses on the EasyPC in our stores and on our web site. The more Golden Gift Points a participating non-profit collects, the greater their share of the $200,000 payout!

Food Lion's Lion Shop and Share program works a little differently.  First you will need one of Food Lion's MVP card.

Once you have an MVP card please go to the following website.  http://www.foodlion.com/IntheCommunity/ShopAndShare/

Click on "Register MVP Cards" or "Change your Organization" if you have previously registered.

Click on "Select Organization"

In the Pop Up window choose "VA" for "Select State", "Mechanicsville" for "Select City" and "CUB SCOUT PACK 555" for "Select Organization."

Click on "Add MVP Cards"

Enter all your MVP information, MVP #, Name and Phone Number on the page and click on "Next."

If all information is correct select "Finished."

Please encourage any friends or relatives to link their cards to CUB SCOUT PACK 555 according the Shop and Save rules an organization must have 25 linked cards to participate.

from the FAQ page http://www.foodlion.com/IntheCommunity/ShopandShare/FAQs.asp

How much money can my organization earn?
At the end of each quarter Food Lion will divide the funds proportionally among the LionShop & Share organizations depending on their total accumulated sales. Checks are sent to the LionShop & Share organizations approximately six weeks after the quarter ends. In order to receive a check in any quarter, an organization must earn at least $10 during that quarter. A check will be issued once the $10 threshold has been reached the following quarters. There will be a cap of $350 per organization per quarter.
If you have any additional questions please let me know.

Thanks,
Tom S

Global Youth Service Day Project

posted ‎‎Apr 27, 2009 8:19 AM‎‎ by Webmaster 555

Dear Scouts, Scouters and Parents;

After tonight's Pack meeting, thank you Julie and Deana for volunteering to be our Popcorn Kernel and Recruiting Chairperson, I went to the Boy Scout meeting and learned about a Youth Service Project from the Battlefield District Commissioner, Don Piacentini.  Hanover County has requested to Scouts in the county to drop off a bag a food or more at your school for the Spring Harvest for the Central Virginia Food Bank.  The food will be collected early next week.  To meet the deadline please drop off your food at Rural Point or your nearest school, if your son does not attend public school, by Monday morning.

Please write Pack 555 at the top of the bag.  Also if you choose to participate, please send me your son's name to me so the service hours can be logged with the district.   Please encourage your son to do this, the last couple of years have been very harsh to a lot of people and the demand for food at the food bank has increased dramatically.   Ask your sons to reach out to family,  friends and close neighbors to see if they wish to contribute.

I do apologize for the last minute notice.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Tom Slicker
