Pinewood Derby Check-in - Saturday, March 10

When:     Saturday, March 10
Time:      4:30 - 6:30 PM
Where:    Ray Stone Post - 2 School Street, Shrewsbury, MA

Here are the Pack 62 Pinewood Derby rules.  Please review them BEFORE you build your car.  We follow stricter guidelines than the rules contained in your Pinewood Derby kit.  If your car does not meet these rules, it will be disqualified from racing.

What is check-in you ask?  You bring your Pinewood Derby car to the Post between 4:30 and 6:30 PM.  Our derby officials will weigh, measure, and inspect your car.  If you have followed the Pack 62 Pinewood Derby rules, your car should pass inspection and be impounded until the race on Sunday.  Impounding means we will keep the car until it races Sunday, and then return it to you when the racing is done.

Think of a name for your car!  Each car gets a name entered into the race computer.

Make sure you apply graphite to your wheels before you check your car in, because you will not have access to your car on race-day.  Please put your graphite on at home so we can keep the mess out of the Post.  It is also a good idea to pre-weigh your car before Saturday to make sure it is close to (but not over) 5.0 ounces.  There is an accurate scale at the Northborough Post Office, or a decent kitchen scale can give you an idea.

Pinewood Derby / March Pack Meeting - Sunday, March 11

When:     Sunday, March 11
Time:      Noon - 2:00 PM
Where:    Ray Stone Post - 2 School Street, Shrewsbury, MA
Flags:      Den 11 Wolf
Skit:        None

Please review the Pack 62 Pinewood Derby Rules.  We follow stricter guidelines than the rules contained in your Pinewood Derby kit.  If your car does not meet these rules, it will be disqualified from racing.

This month we are having our Pack meeting on Sunday because we are holding our Pinewood Derby race!  We will be bringing in the flags at Noon and will be starting racing with the Tigers.  Please be on time as the Scout must be present to race.

We will once again have a Pit Stop area where you can purchase delicious hot dogs, chips, and snacks so please come hungry and eat with us.

Race Format:  Each rank will race separately starting with the Tigers and working our way up to Webelos.  Scouts must be present for their car to race.  Your car will be returned to you once we are done racing
all ranks and the flags are taken out.  A first, second, and third place trophy will be awarded per rank.  All Scouts racing will receive a patch.  We have a six lane track, and each car will race six times, once in each lane.  We will average the times for all six races and the car with the lowest time (fastest) wins.

Open Racing:  This year after the scouts are done racing and the final awards have been presented, we will have closing ceremonies and then begin "open" racing.  Scouts, siblings, and parents may line up to race any car at that time.  This can be an extra car your family has built or cars from a past Pinewood Derby.  This racing is just for fun and no awards will be given.  You may get back in line as many times as you like and race as many cars as you like.  These cars will not be checked in so you are on your honor to make sure they meet the Pack 62 specifications.  If you have cars that do not meet the specifications (experimental cars), we will allow these cars to race at the very end when the Scouts have had enough racing with their regular cars.

Extra Kits:  If you would like an extra Pinewood Derby kit, it may be purchased for $4 from Maureen Pellizzari. You can email her at moepell@townisp.com. The kits are also available for purchase at the Scout Shop in Worcester or Southborough.
