Aug 18 Sat - Pool party
The kids got to know each other by swimming in the pool, playing in the hot tub and shooting the water balloon trebuchet. We ate sausage and hot dogs from the grill. The adults chatted and some volunteered for positions.

We staffed a table and gave out information to interested parents.

Tue - Recruitment Night
Fred announced the activity at the preceding Moss Haven Roundup. Fred appeared on Good Morning Moss Haven on the day of the Recruitment. Fred and cubs decorated a mini-van and handed out flyers before and after school. From 7:00-8:00 pm cubs and interested kids played with a small trebuchet, Playmobile knights, and
wooden blocks (for castle walls). Twelve new cubs signed up! We started a Tiger den (but had no cubs for Wolves).

This North trails campout at Camp Wisdom was canceled.

Sep 18 Tue - Pack Meeting
New cubs recited the oath and became Bobcats. We presented the awards earned by the cubs who attended the Twilight Camp. Popcorn order forms were distributed. Russ Aman took professional quality photos of all scouts and parents in attendance. Parents signed up for the October North Trail Adventure campout.
Sep 22 Sat - Rangers Game
This looked fun but we didn't get a volunteer to lead. No cubs attended. Pre-game picnic 5pm, game 7:05 PM Registration at

Tue Oct 6-7 Sat-Sun North Trail Campout at Camp Wisdom
Scout activities included archery, BB shooting, and ship to ship water
balloon battles. The early bird fee before Sep 15 was $15 and included a T-shirt.

Oct 19 Fri - Bear Den Meeting
This was held at 6pm at 8051 Westover Drive. The Den knocked off some advancement items. They also painted and launched the USS 473 Seabear (model sub) and swam in the pool.
Oct 20 Sat - SMU vs Tulane football game
Fifteen
scouts and parents attended the game. Some took
the Dart. The kickoff was at 7pm (but there was no on field cub
parade). Thanks to Eric White for coordinating 473's participation.
Oct 28 Sat - Moss Haven Carnival
Cubs will helped with clean up.
2007 November
Nov 3-4 Sat-Sun - Webelos Woods Camp Cherokee
Webelos Scouts will participate in a variety of activities designed to expose them to the basic Boy Scout camping skills. The early bird cost was $15.
Nov 10 Sat - Civil War Re-enactment at Dallas Heritage Village
This
was a very fun event. Soldiers at the two encampments (Union and
Confederate) explained their life and equipment. A skirmish of about 30
soldiers ended with a Confederate victory, but there were causalities
on both sides. A second, different skirmish was staged Sunday as well.

Nov 20 Tue - Pack meeting hosted by the Bears
The
meeting was held at the Richland Planetarium. We watched some short
videos, then brought the stars out and identified the Big Dipper,
Bootes and Cassiopeia. We then went outside and guessed the distance to
the moon by placing apples at various distances from a globe. Next the
four dens used a map to find the four outer planets hidden on campus at
scale distances from our flashlight "sun". We ran out of time to look
through the telescope (but will at the next meeting at Moss Haven).
The Texas Astronomical Society
maintains a good website, including a starchart under "Tonight's sky".
(UTC is the time in London, 0 to 24h, so add 6 hours to get local
Dallas time).
Den leaders can count some of the activities towards earning your cubs the Astronomy beltloop ( requirements ). Charts used were the scale photos of the planets ( planets ), and scale solar system ( orbits ). The meeting agenda includes links to the three videos that were shown ( agenda ). Also my mistake: Voyager lives! ( Voyager funding Voyager site ).

Beth led games of played musical chairs, and musical Santa hats. Lisa gave out the popcorn sales prizes, Eric the SMU patches and Robin dropped off the North Trail t-shirts. Cubs also sang carols into the microphone.
