Training

New to a leadership position in the pack or a parent wanting to learn more about the Cub Scout program?  Follow the steps below to learn more!

Minimum Requirements for Registered Leaders (strongly encouraged for adult family members)

Before your first meeting with the Cub Scouts you are involved with as a registered leader there are some minimum requirements.

1.  Make a plan to attend Virtus training.  (Virtus training is the Catholic Church's version of youth protection training and a requirement for all adults involved with youth programs at St. Paul's.)

    a.  You can find the location of Virtus training in our area by going to this link, at virtus.org.  Select the "Glaveston-Houston, TX (diocese)" as your organization.  Find a session that will work for you, then register for it.

2.  Do Youth Protection Training online MyScouting E-Learning.  If you don't already have a MyScouting account you'll need to create one.  Once you have logged in, select the link for E-Learning.  Then, you'll find the Youth protection Training under the "General" tab.

Training to help you run your portion of the Cub Scout program (also encouraged for adult family members)

3.  Do Fast Start Training online.  Just like with youth protection training, you can find Fast Start Training at MyScouting E-Learning.  You'll find the appropriate fast start training under the Cub Scout tab.  There is even fast start training for the Boy Scout's that volunteer to help lead a den here

4.  Make a plan to attend Basic Leader Training.  Basic Leader Training includes New Leader Essentials and Leader Specific Training.  These are offered by our district (Bayshore District) as well as other districts in Sam Houston Area Council.

Once a Cub Scout leader has completed Youth-Protection Training, Fast Start Training, and Basic Leader Training for his or her specific position, the leader is eligible to wear the trained leader emblem.  One of our pack's goals is that we have 100% of our registered leaders achieve this goal.

5.  Be sure to visit the local Scout Shop to obtain and read a copy of the Cub Scout Leader Book.  Also all Tiger and Cub Scout Leaders should have a copy of the Cub Scout Program HelpsWebelos leaders should use the Webelos Leader Guide instead of the Cub Scout Program Helps.  Before you sit down to make a den meeting plan, be sure to check out this great new experimental program, Fast Tracks.
