Scouting For Food Feb 4th

posted Jan 27, 2012 11:00 AM by Cub Scouts   [ updated Jan 30, 2012 12:08 PM ]

Don't forget to pick up your scouting for food bags at the Monday Pack meeting. Scouting for food is the most important service project that our pack does every year. Your scouts participation is essential!

Hello,

It's that time of year again.  Time when we do a good turn and help others by Scouting For Food. Scouting For Food” is Mecklenburg County Council's community stewardship project aimed at addressing the problem of hunger in the community in which we live and work.

Scouting For Food is a project rooted in the very foundation of the Scouting movement. Through initiative and hard work, the Boy Scouts have developed a framework to help LOAVES & FISHES food pantries feed needy local residents with emergency aid.  Loaves and Fishes is a Charlotte-based food pantry that collects and supplies food and groceries to people in crisis. It's a non-profit organization working with volunteers and donations to end hunger in our community.

Pack 33 has always collected several thousand pounds of food. How many thousands of pounds will we collect this year? Can we beat that other group down the street?? Which Den or Patrol will collect the most?  There are prizes to the top collectors!!! So, remember, it's all for a good cause and you can have some fun doing it!  The weather looks good....so get scouting!

So what do we do??

Download and print the letters from this email or the website.  You can customize them with a picture of your scout! Attach them to the bags and then....

Take bags and distribute the bags in your neighborhood with one of the letters attached to it.

People will then simply fill the bags with non-perishable food items (no glass items please) and you will pick it up on Saturday morning, February 4 and return all your bags back to Sardis Church between 10 and 12 on Saturday, February 4

We will weigh it there and take it to the collection site.

All food collected will go directly to feed our neighbors in need through Loaves & Fishes’ network of 19 food pantries located throughout Mecklenburg County.

ONE POUND OF FOOD PROVIDES ONE MEAL FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR!!

Priority food needs include canned meats, canned pastas (such as SpaghettiO’s), canned fruit, cereal and 100% fruit juice.

Please be generous and help Scouts do a good turn by feeding the hungry in our community!

We will need a few volunteers to help load the trailer between 10-12 on Saturday, Feb. 4. If you are able to help or have any questions, please contact Cathy Click at pack33charlotte@gmail.com.

Thank you for helping feed the hungry,

Cathy Click
