On May 15, 2010, San Mateo County 4-Hers in the 4-H Million Trees Project were presented with an Environmental Excellence Award by Assembly Member Jerry Hill.  The next time you are at the County 4-H Office in Half Moon Bay, please look for prestigious award hanging in a place of honor. As Kristin Mercer of Belmont 4-H says, young 4-Hers in this project are changing the image of 4-H from that of 19th century farmers to 21st century leaders.

Elkus Ranch Family Overnight

May 8, 2010 was the Family Overight stay at Elkus Ranch, just south of Half Moon Bay.  4h members took care of the farm animals for the day, inlcuding:  goats, sheep, rabbits, and a llama.  In all honesty, the members didn't as much take care of the llama as stay out of spitting range.  There was the traditional campfire, spaghetti and meatballs, smores, movies, night hike, and an epic scavenger hunt.

Pacifica 4H has adopted Mussel Rock Beach in Pacifica to give it the attention it deserves.  Our first cleanup day netted the following:
  • 1 Couch
  • 1 Bucket of Roofing Tar
  • 1 Buoy
In addition, the club cleaned up an encampment that's been there for some time.
