Woodworking

Pacifica 4-H Woodworking project started in 2001. The goal of this project is to have fun while providing youth members with hands-on experience handling basic woodworking tools and creating a variety of wood crafts.

Members gain confidence, not only in working with stylish wood art materials ranging from particle board to fence planks, but also in learning the safe use of basic woodworking handtools. Under adult supervison, more advanced members help newer members in project construction.

Examples of the crafts created by woodworking project members over the years include everthing from simple toys, like spinning tops, to useful household accessories, like tissue box covers, picture frame bookends, personal storage cabinets, and silverware caddies. Projects are typically chosen and prepared such that they can be completed and taken home at the end of each meeting.

Members are encouraged to enter completed projects in the County Fair. The projects of previous woodworking members have received at least one Judges' Choice and several First Place awards.
