This project will meet approximately once a month and will cover the basic needs and purposes for poultry. In addition, this project will focus on how to prepare for a poultry show and to learn the basics of poultry showmanship.

You will learn the parts of the birds, proper nutrition, housing needs and common illnesses, as well as understanding the breed standard, varieties, and how to identify them.

The tentative dates for the project meetings will be the 2nd Saturday of the month. We also hope to attend, as a group, a poultry show sometime in the spring.

The Poultry Project is one of the many animal science projects the Pacifica 4-H Club has to offer. Animal projects are designed to help young people learn a valuable life skill, Responsibility. Learning to be responsible can start by caring for an animal. When you care for an animal you are responsible for providing everything your animal needs. To do this, you must learn all you can about your animal and what it needs to be healthy and happy.

This past year has been an exciting one for our poultry project. We have successfully raised bantams from one-day old chicks to blue ribbons winners at our County Fair. In the process our members have grown in knowledge and are committed to continue to learn more about Poultry.
