Dodgers News Notes and Opinions

I'm back with a season wrap up. It was both a good and bad season for us. We have all but been eliminated which is not a good season currently 4th in our division even behind the lowly Rockies who are possibly going to be a force in this division in years to come with their young talent. I think most teams would be extremely happy with having a rebuilding year like us and still being over .500. I liked the fact we got the youth in the game a lot more. It should whether there will be able to last like Martin, Loney, Kemp and Ethier. Whether we should be worried about injures like La Roche and whether or not we need a solid veteran to back them up. I don't know if we should make a complete transition and just have the young ones for next year or not. I think we need to keep around the speed in Furcal and Pierre. I don't think Hu is quite ready for the major league level yet. I would like to see a quality 3rd baseman brought in to help push La Roche to the next level. The competition for the job would be good for the whole team. The Dodgers seem to be a franchise on the uprise with a bright future if u have the future 2-Martin 3-Loney 4-Kemp 5-Ethier hitters we have it looks like a good road ahead. We just have to 'Wait Til Next Year" sound familiar?

I'm sorry I havent writing anything in a long time. I have gotten busy but  I'm back to summarize the off-season and spring training. I went to Arizona this year and watched spring training. I know the Dodgers don't train there yet but i learned just how many people they are trying to squeeze into the 25 spots. I like the way Larry Bigbie has produces and he is more experience than Choo Freeman. Since Jason Repko is out for a lengthy amount of time I think i would bring Bigbie up to the bigs and see how he responds.  The 5th spot in the rotation is up for graps. I don't have a clue who will win this spot in the rotation. I might select Joe Mays as a dark horse he has plenty of experience and would make every member of the rotation a former All-Star. The other guys might have more physical ability than Mays but he could work as Greg Maddux did last year. He is a smart pitcher.

Im back again. I think we are going to have a great year if we stay healthy. Our pitching staff will be one of the best in the National and probably american league also. Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, Jason Schimdt definately the best front of a rotation in the National League. The back is pretty good also with Wolf (if healthy) and Billingsley. Martin behind the plate will be a huge plus also. Hitting will be the weakness but if Gonzo and Kent drive in RBI"s and Furcal and Pierre get on base we will have a good chance at the division. Our farm club is like everyone keeps saying very good. Andy Laroche could get some starts at 3rd base. The bullpen is young but if Greg Miller and Jonathan Broxton do well setting up Saito it will be good enough to close out the games. The signing of Joe Mays gives us an experienced long relief or spot starter that can teach the young pitchers things from better pickoff moves to better pitch location.

Well i might not be the smartest sports guy out there but i think i know a little about the Dodgers. I have been a fan for 15 years of my 15 year life and have followed every transaction since 2000 . I think it was a great move getting Ned Colleti as our GM. He has and will continue turning around the team after the bad year Paul Deposta left us with. I think we could have a dominant team if we just resign a few key parts (Greg Maddux, Nomar Garciaparra, Kenny Loften, Eric Gagne) and sign a few free agents. I do think that Eric Gagne will probably go to some place like Boston and it would be ok if we convinced Saito to stay around and continue in the closer duties and Tomko stays in relief. I like getting home town discounts on Wolf and  Lieberthal. Jason Schimdt was a great buy for the price but Pierre isn't he is blocking Kemp but Gonzo is ok since it was such a short deal. We haven't blocked many prospects from coming up long term except center with Pierre.
