The Rites of Spring is Oakland Yacht Club's traditional short handed race, and this year is also featuring fully crewed women's entries. If you haven't done much short-handed sailing, this is the time. Short handed is great. Not only do you skip the hassle of lining up five crew and lunches, you finally get the opportunity to do everything done the way it should be done--your way. Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker divisions are available. This will be our 22nd annual race and it just gets better every year. In addition to the experiencing a fun race, you get to extend the pleasure by coming up to the club after the race for drinks, dinner, the awards presentations, and lie-telling with your competitors. Most participants don’t race single or double-handed regularly, but do this one race just for the experience. Some, usually couples, count this as their only race for the season. In any case, it’s a fun race, user friendly, with the winds and weather usually pleasant. Because it is a short handed race, the Race Committee makes the start line wide and makes liberal use of radio help to the racers. So, come on out. This is easily the best possible way for a sailor to celebrate the start of spring-don’t miss it. Entry Form, Notice of Race and Sailing instructions are attached. The entry fee for the race is $30. For entries that are mailed or delivered after March 10, please add $5.00. Please download and mail in to Oakland Yacht Club, or use the following link to register online: |
