Reporting incidents

All safety incidents, even small safety risks should be reported to the committee.

The Queensland Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Act 1994 requires all marine incidents to be reported to a shipping inspector within 48 hours. Further, the report must be made on the approved Marine Incident Report form (PDF**, 42KB). Marine incidents include (see the Act for the full list):
  • the death of, or grievous bodily harm to, a person caused by a ship’s operations; or
  • a collision with a ship; or
  • danger to a person caused by a ship’s operations.
Your boat (even a Sabot) is a "ship" and the person in charge is its "master" and the Act applies to you. On-the-water incidents where there is real danger must be reported to a shipping inspector and we have reported incidents in the past. Such events may include a speedboat "buzzing" another boat.
