Owosso Musicale members are shown March 12 at Owosso Community Players' Studio Theater. Selections from the musical parody "Two by Two" were presented, accompanied by Chris Sprink.
Michael McClung plays the part of "Noah" with a cast of eight, directed by Mary Jo-Damm-Strong and Quentin Brainerd II.

The April meeting has been changed from April 9 to April 16 to accomodate the Music Award students who are just back from Spring break and need a week to rehearse their music that they will present to the members (get back in the groove, so to speak!). The meeting will be held at Noon in the First United Church, 1500 N. Water St.

The May 14 (Monday) meeting will be a dinner at 5:30 p.m and held at the First United Methodist Church. David Troiano, lyric tenor, will perform his program of "American Music---18th thru 20th Centuries." David will give the background of the various songs while interspercing with humorous anecdotes. He has toured with this presentation around the states, including many colleges where he has been well received. Troiano has just returned from Finland where he has been performing lately.
Reservations are required and tickets are $17. Members are encouraged to bring guests so all may enjoy this distictive program. Send checks to OM treasurer Cheryl Gapinski at 1043 Chipman Lane, Owosso 48867.

Three Men and a Tenor are coming to Owosso at the Owosso Middle School Cournyer Auditorium on Friday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. The Owosso Musicale, in celebration of their 75th anniversary, is sponsoring the popular group to benefit their Music Award fund for Junior High/Middle School, High School and College music students. This is also the quartet’s 20th year anniversary, and they have entitled their tour “Three Men and a Ten(or) TWENTY>”
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students 18 years and under. Seating is on a “first come, first served” basis.
Owosso Musicale awards $3000 annually to first, second and third place winners of both Middle and High school entrants to help fund their music education. This includes the Dr. Montague $1200 award to a graduating senior High student to further their music studies in college. College music major students also are awarded $500 to assist in continuing their career in music.
Tickets are on sale at the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce, 215 N. Water St., Owosso, and at the Shiawassee Arts Center, 206 Curwood Castle Dr, Owosso and will be sold at the door. For further information call Cheryl Gapinski at 725-8668 or Sue Degerstrom at 725-5001.

Owosso Musicale announces its annual judging-awards day on Saturday, Feb. 25. Eligible to apply are junior and senior high and college-bound students residing in Shiawassee County or students taught by a teacher residing in Shiawassee County.
Applications are available through participating school and private music instructors and are due by mid-February 2012. The registration fee is $15 per student.
Auditions are available for music students who are studying in private lessons, or as a school vocal or band student. Memorization in part is required and the awards will be given upon personal merit.
An undergraduate college student studying in the technical field of music may apply, for which an application will require an essay and a teacher's recommendation. For more information, persons may call Co-Chairman Cheryl Gapinski, (989) 725-8668. |

On November 14, American Music Month and Federation Day, Nick Frederick, our high school Music Award winner and multi talented student was featured, performing on piano and dulcimer.

The October general meeting was held at Christ Episcopal Church in Owosso (pictured).
A string quartet of young ladies, "Fortuna", from Okemos High School performed under the direction of instructor Patricia Smith, with the program "A Teaching, Learning Experience".
From left to right are Natalie Lee, Violin, Judy Chou, violin, instructor Patricia Smith, Kaitlin Urban, viola, and Isabel Kwon, cello. Pat Smith explained the various techniques that the instrumentalists use to stay together and play well. The girls even illustrated the wrong way to play together. Their program included a variety with Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, and Roger & Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music".

The October Past Presidents’ Tea opened our year on
Monday, October 10th at Noon, at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 Goodhue.
Patricia Smith, violinist, string instructor, and Director of the
Shiawassee String Orchestra, presented the program!
