K-12 Databases

 
The following K-12 databases are available from on and off-campus computers.  Only registered SUNY College at Old Westbury students or staff members can access the databases from off campus.  When logging onto a database from an off-campus computer, you will be prompted to enter a user name and password.  Enter the same user name and password you normally use on-campus.  First time users must get a password via an on-campus computer first.   
 
Demographic and geographic data as well as current news articles on all countries.  Also offers The CountryWatch.com@School, a selection of resources for teachers.  Grade levels: 9 and up.
Created especially for junior high and middle school students.  This database provides articles (most full-text) from newspapers, magazines, and reference books on the arts, current events, health, government, science, history, popular culture, people, sports, and more.
Provides full-text for over 60 popular, elementary school magazines.  Included among these are: Appleseeds, Cobblestone, Cricket, Highlights for Children, Hopscotch, Jack & Jill, Ladybug, Ranger Rick, Science World, Spider, Super Science, and Turtle.  Lexile Reading Levels are assigned to all full-text articles.  Coverage dates: 1984 to present.
Covers a variety of topics geared toward elemetary and middle school students.  Searchasaurus has a colorful, animated interface with a dinosaur theme.  Includes Primary Search.
This current events database allows researchers to explore social, political and economic issues, scientific discoveries and other popular topics discussed in today's classrooms.  Updated biweekly.
