Supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Beads for Health, a Matré Group project, raises funds for orphans and vulnerable children. To show our appreciation, donors receive ethically
produced jewelry made of recycled magazines, window panes, and glass
bottles by women with small and medium sized businesses in Uganda. Recommended donations are listed for each tolken of our appreciation. Your donations support orphans. We also support a growing women-run bead-making industry. Donations go a long way to pay for orphans' health care. Currently 280 orphans receive health
services at the
Ishaka Adventist Hospital through the Beads for Health program. We recently added a new village to our program. Recycled Glass Beads were recently been posted. You will find something right for you in our brilliant natural lapis, jade, stone and sea blues colors. Made by PaperCraft, a woman-owned Ugandan business, these products are the perfect weight. A woman's group in Kampala make paper beads, which are sold at various craft markets in town. This group of women lives in Banda, a Kampala slum. Ugandan women from the north, where war led to a massive flee from the war zone. Banda is a land of the Kabaka (king of Central Uganda). People who live here carve rocks into small bits and pieces which they then sell to construction companies. This is terribly hard work earning about 30 cents per day.
