Only do Early Decision if you know that it is the private school you really want to go, because if not, you'll get stuck going there.
If you are applying to UC Davis, they offer scholarships in February, and make sure you apply to them! (I didn't and I regret it!)
Make sure you do your IDOC for the winter, which gives you money directly from the school. Just incase it comes up, FAFSA is the IDOC for private schools, and it is government money.
To narrow down the list of acceptances, you should make a list of pros and cons, and then whichever has more pros then you're good. And it just depends on what field you want to go in.
Look at scholarships early If the question is What is your dream, don't start with "My dream is..." Don't apply out of state if you know your parents aren't going to support you.
Talk more about yourself than anything else in your personal statement In your personal statement, don't talk about a lot of things, talk about one or two things. Don't procrastinate on writing your personal statement, because you're going to be writing drafts and drafts until you get what that you like.
Start preparing in the 11th grade "The UC personal statements are very broad, and I wrote three essays for 8 applications!" First you must educate yourself on what colleges best fit your interest, that was one of the biggest mistakes I made. Be realistic because college applications are not cheap, yea you can have your "sure bets" your "okay i mights gets in" and your "im shooting for the stars" colleges, but always narrow them down and be realistic with the locations of the colleges.
"For me, I found out colleges that I wanted to attend by sitting down and looking at each college and seeing what they have to offer me, because each college offers different things." Don't lie in your personal statement. Make sure you are on top of things, because you want to leave room for scholarships.
