The spirit of adventure is not dead, at least not in Outdoor Network—a voluntary group of people drawn together by a common interest in the outdoors and who enjoy mountaineering, biking, canoeing, and other such activities. It is open to young people between the ages of 10—21 and their parents. Activities are based in West Lancashire and further afield for more ambitious expeditions. The emphasis is on: · Adventure · Fun · Training opportunities and talent development for young people · Meeting people Adventurous outdoor activities tend to develop qualities like resilience, self-reliance and a sense of well-being and self-esteem. They encourage a healthy life-style and enrich the community in which they take place. Transport Sometimes, a minibus will be laid on; this will be made clear in the joining instructions. Sometimes cars are used.. Duty of Care In a culture that is risk-averse, we believe that the positive management of risk is necessary and creative. So the acceptance of personal risk is a condition of joining in the activity. Members are asked to sign a statement to this effect on their membership application form. Similarly, parents are asked to sign an acceptance of this risk on behalf of their children. Each member of a group has a duty of care towards other members of the group. Safety is a shared responsibility. Ask for a statement with more exact details about legal liability. Under 18s If under 18s are not accompanied by a parent, responsibility for them is delegated to another responsible adult or the organizer. A Permission/medical form must be completed. This is available from the trip organizer. Code of Practice Outdoor Network operates a code of conduct and the environmental sustainability policy that is recognized in the world of outdoor learning. We use qualified instructors and operate Health and Safety and Child Protection policies.
