Training is offered to families of hearing-impaired children to reinforce the goals of the programme in the home environment. Parent Guidance is offered to families of children who attend the programme on a full-time basis and also visiting families.
EARLY INTERVENTION
Toddlers (0-3 yrs) are taught in small groups. The aim is to train listening attitude and to stimulate functional language skills. Children are encouraged to imitate speech and use their first words
PRE-SCHOOL
Children (3-5 yrs) are taught in small groups. The aim is to train more advanced listening skills and to help the child advance from using words to using sentences
SCHOOL READINESS
Grade R children (6 yrs) are taught in small groups. The aim is to train school readiness skills and to help the child acquire complex language skills in order to prepare them for mainstream education
ADDITIONAL THERAPY
Additional Speech and Occupational Therapy is available on-site to children who require it
VISITORS
Children from all ages are attending the programme on a visiting basis. They attend the appropriate classes during their visit and receive a comprehensive home programme
FOLLOW-UP
Once the children are placed in normal education, their progress is monitored by regular contact with the teachers and visits to the school. Additional therapy is available at the school when needed.
