Classroom Guidance Lessons

In a comprehensive guidance and counseling program, all students will be serviced by the school counselor.  Our goal at the elementary level is to prevent problems that will make education difficult for students now and in the future.  School counselors work to help all students develop personal/social skills, academic skills, and career skills that will allow them to become successful, confident learners.  The school counselor visits every classroom at least once a month, but usually twice a month, to teach lessons that are developmentally appropriate to every grade level.  Through this consistent contact with all the students, our school counselors get to know all children and the students feel very comfortable if the need arises for them to work with the counselor either in a small group or individually.  Classroom guidance lesson topics may include:

Feelings                            Conflict Resolution                 Bullying

Friendship Skills          Personal Safety                         Careers

Social Skills                    Character Education               Diversity

Study Skills                     Drug Awareness                       Self-Esteem
