The Player Draft

The Player Draft

The purpose of the Drafts is to assign players to teams so as to produce teams of equal calibre.
The aim is to have the best possible competition between teams in order to provide the best baseball experience for the players. The Team Drafts will be carried out in general accordance with the procedures of the Player Slection System as outlined in the Little League Operating Manual.

Tee Ball, Coach Pitch

This is a very early “fun” level of baseball and there is no competitive play involved. For this reason, evaluations are not held at these levels. Players are assigned to teams on a random basis by the Player Agent, the Division Convenor and others as selected by the Player Agent. The aim will be to keep all teams as equal as possible. Adjustments may be made, team to team, to respond to manager’s children, sibling situations, and transport equirements as appropriate. These players will be evaluated and drafted to teams when they enter the Minor Division.

Minor, Major, Junior, Senior

Players on the Draft lists will be listed in order based on Little League age, skill levels assigned during evaluations, and stated desire to try-out for the

Competitive Programme. Players will be drafted to teams by the Player Agent, Manager - Coaching, Division Convenor and others as selected by the Player Agent. Evaluation assessors and managers in the League/Division may be present to offer advice during the draft procedure. The desired results are equal numbers of those who have expressed a competitive intention and those who have not, and equal calibre of players, on all teams. Team draft order will be

established at random. After that, team order will remain the same throughout the draft. Teams will be assigned to specific managers by random draw after the draft is complete. Managers with sons/daughters in the Division will be accommodated at this point. Options are outlined in the Procedure Manual. As managers are not assigned to teams until after the draft is complete, options on sons or daughters of managers and coaches will not apply. Sibling options will apply as outlined in the Procedure Manual. Also options to accommodate travel requirements will be entertained at this point. These options should be made known by the Convenor to the Player Agent 48 hours before the draft for each division commences. Requests for player for player trades will be entertained by the Player Agent from a time immediately after the draft is closed until the end of the day on the Friday of the first week of the Instructional Season. The trade request may be made only by the Division Convenor in writing (Email is best) with reasons. The options on sons/daughters of managers and coaches should, if

known, be submitted as trade requests immediately at the end of the draft. If not known until later, they can be made up to the close of the trade period. Trades may be referred to the OLLB Board for approval. At the end of the first weekend of the season, team rosters will be final and uniforms will become required wear.
