ORION SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY RACE
Saturday 3rd october 2009

Orion organised this event  and produced records entries on the day
20 primary schools were represented
which led to 148 girls and 124 boys competing on the day.

The Woodford Green Prep. School confirmed their marked improvement in recent years with a win double in the team event as their boy and girl runners raced to clear victories on this energy-sapping course. In the boys' team race, Bancrofts came second and
St Patricks finished in third place. In the girls' event, Greenleaf `A' took second position, narrowly holding off Bancrofts who finished in third.

In the individual events, Freddie Freestone (Woodford Green Prep.), Ellis Steward
(St John's) and Sam Lecuyer (Yardley) took the first three places. For the girls, Isabella Hoy (Nightingale), Alliah Auguste (St Patricks) and Olivia O'Brien (Bancrofts) led field home.

Event organisers Shona Gordon (LB Waltham Forest School Sports Co-ordinator),
Jane Farrier (Orion Junior Manager) and Steve Timpson (Orion Secretary) were absolutely thrilled with the turn-out of youngsters for the two races and the excellent sportsmanship shown by all participants.

men ‑ 3000

Lauren MacGregor and Jay Andews took Silver and Bronze in the 3000 metres, in a race

somewhat spoilt by tactics and high winds which saw tearls pass at not much

more than jogging pace before things hotted up in the later stages. That aside the two

medals for Orion was a great achievement by Lauren and Jay.
