In addition to religious services, first-rate choral and chamber concerts are frequently held in the Auditoire. The limitations and poor quality of the present organ make it impossible for solo organ recitals, and less than ideal for accompaniment. A larger, more versatile organ in the Auditoire could attract organists from the world over, and such an instrument could be well used in worship and for a wide range of concerts. Both the city of Geneva and the Reformed Church international community would benefit from a new, more versatile organ for the Auditoire. The 500th anniversary of Calvin's birth, celebrated in 2009, provides a marvellous occasion to install an instrument worthy of the setting. After an intensive search, a representative group from the congregations using the Auditoire, advised by François Delor, official organist of the Cathedral of St Pierre in Geneva, selected Bernard Aubertin, a renowned French organ-builder, to build the new organ. The new instrument will be better suited for supporting congregational singing, it will be a high quality instrument appropriate for organ recitals and chamber music performances with organ, and it will take better advantage of the Auditoire's outstanding acoustics.
The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately CHF 480,000 / € 385,000.
The AOAC is appealing to Reformed churches and music-lovers world-wide to help finance this inspiring project. (Project Objective) (Bernard Aubertin, Organ Builder) (Contribute to the Appeal) |
