IWCA Style Decoy Contest We will be following the established IWCA rules for this contest. Please refer to the Section 8 rules on the IWCA website or click here: http://iwfca.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=147&Itemid=109 This contest will have an Open Class and a Novice/Intermediate Class. You must be a member of IWCA to enter decoys into this contest. IWCA membership will be available at the Festival. Open Floating Decoy Contest This is a wide open decoy contest. Anything goes. Judging will be based on the carver’s ability to capture the essence of the carved species. The only requirement is that the decoy must be able to float. No need to have a facility for anchor attachment. This is a contest designed to showcase the best of the best and pit floating decorative decoys against gunning decoys. Which captures essence of the carved bird the best? We’ll see at the show. This is a non-IWCA event Definitions Novice/Intermediate Class - Carvers who have not won two Best of Shows in the Intermediate level in any participating IWCA Competition. Open Class - Carvers who have won two Best of Shows in the Intermediate level at any participating IWCA Show or Competition. Schedule The People’s Choice contest will take place both Saturday, August 21st and Sunday, August 22nd of the Festival. Voting will be tallied at the end of the festival and the prize money will be mailed if the carver is not present.
Contest Structure All submitted decoys will be eligible for the People’s Choice award. All decoys for judged contests will first be judged by the Carving Committee to ensure that each decoy meets the contest rules. Judging will start by selecting the first, second and third best of species for all species entered into a single contest. The first best species in each division (four divisions total) will then be judged against each other for first, second and third best in division. The best in division winners will then be judged against each other for best in show. The replacement method will be used for this contest for the division and best in show judging. For example, if a Mallard drake is selected as best of the puddle duck division, that decoy will be removed from the judging tank and replaced with the second best mallard. Then the second best in division will be chosen. This is to ensure that the very best decoys have the opportunity to win. So, if a carver has entered three mallards, and they are the best decoys in the puddle ducks, all three mallards can all win by using the replacement method.
