Family Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers and communities by addressing important personal, work and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
Oregon FCCLA has been Building Skills for Life since 1947.
Today, Oregon FCCLA has nearly 250 members in 13 chapters around the state. They are part of an active network of associations in 50 states as well as in the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Students are involved in a variety of individual and chapter projects which focus on a variety of youth concerns including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, financial fitness, teen violence and career exploration. FCCLA programs are an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum and operate within the school system. FCCLA privides opportunities for active student participation at local, state and national levels.
Oregon's State Board of Higher Education adopted graduation requirements that stress rigor and relevance. Participation in FCCLA programs helps students meet the Oregon graduation requirements: 1) participate in experiences to gain Essential Skills, 2) demonstrate Career Related Learning Standards and 3) demonstrate Extended Application through a collection of evidence.
Students participating in FCCLA are better prepared for success after high school whether they choose to continue their education or training or enter the workforce.
