The Oregon Cricket League (OCL) was established in 2005 by three clubs, Multnomah Cricket Club, Portland Cricket Club and Gresham Cricket Club. These clubs had played in the Northwest Cricket League (NWCL) for many years, but decided to form their own league due to the increased travel to the Seattle Metro area to play in NWCL matches. Oregon State University Cricket Club (OSU CC) also joint the three founding clubs in the OCL. In the first year of existence, OCL matches were played at the John Deere Field in Gresham. These matches consisted of 30 overs an innings format. In 2006, Beaverton Cricket Club, another NWCL veteran club, and HP Corvallis Cricket Club, joined the OCL. Two fields for cricket were then added to the venues for OCL matches. One was North Plains School field in North Plains. The other was the Corvallis Cricket Field, located at the campus of Hewlett Packard Company. This ground became to venue for all OCL matches in the Willamette Valley. 2006 also featured the introduction of a shortened version of the game, the 25-25 format. A tournament was held with this format to start the season. In 2007, two new clubs joined OCL - the University of Oregon CC, comprised mainly of students at the state university in Eugene and Saber Stallions CC, comprised of IT employees in Saber Corporation based in Salem. The 25-25 format for the early season tournament was converted to the 20-20 standard that had taken off all over the world. Two Divisions were set up for this tournament. In 2008, Saber Stallions CC dropped out, but a new club Conifer CC joined the league. So, presently, OCL of 8 clubs, with a membership comprises of over 200 total players in playing at three venues.
